In our last blog post we talked about the power of industry education and how ARVC offers two certificate programs – Outdoor Hospitality Management (OHM) and Outdoor Hospitality Professional (OHP) – at the National School of RV Park and Campground Management. We also announced that a newly-redesigned certificate program – the Outdoor Hospitality Generalist (OHG) – for those who are new to our industry, will soon be available online.

Now it’s time to take a deeper dive into the topics these certificate programs cover. Each certificate program is designed to help learners develop five key competencies, each one customized to meet the stage the individual is at in their industry career. These five competencies are:

1. Brand Management 
Whether you own one park or several parks, developing and maintaining a strong brand image is vital to success. Brand Management classes discuss the various ways your park’s brand impacts potential guests and leaves a lasting impression.

2. Professionalism and Leadership 
This competency focuses on developing strong leadership skills. It also addresses communication styles and other interpersonal skills that impact every member of the team as well as the daily functions of the business.

3. Human Resource Management 
There’s so much that park owners and managers need to know about employees’ hiring, retention and benefits. These classes are designed to help learners create a positive and engaging employment culture for everyone in their park.

4. Business Management and Practices 
These classes focus on what happens “behind the desk,” including topics such as insurance, bookkeeping, reservations systems and more, all of which are essential to running a successful campground.

5. Site and Facility Management 
These classes focus on what happens “in the field,” including topics such as risk management, general maintenance requirements and standards, and ways to expand sustainability efforts in your park.

Rather than merely covering general business practices, ARVC’s certificate programs are industry-specific, meaning that learners will benefit from real-life examples and the expertise of industry professionals to gain a clear understanding of how each of these topics specifically impacts RV parks and campgrounds.
