The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) is pleased to announce that Susan Motley will be joining the ARVC team as senior director of education and events, and executive director of the ARVC Foundation.
Susan will be joining the ARVC team in mid-May after serving most recently as deputy director of the Association for the Advancement of Physician and Provider Recruitment (AAPPR) in Richmond, Virginia, where, among other accomplishments, she was responsible for aligning education across all platforms, including AAPPR’s annual conference, webinars, certification programs, publications, and micro-learning opportunities.
“Susan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both education and events that will continue to advance ARVC’s engaging educational opportunities, and create new ones, for our members to take advantage of year-round,” says Paul Bambei, president and CEO of ARVC. “Our members are telling us they are ready for convenient online education options as well as new in-person experiences, and we believe Susan is the right person to make this happen.”
Susan is no stranger to hospitality having started her career in hotel sales and marketing with major hotel brands, such as Sheraton, Marriott and Omni, and then as director of tourism for the Metro Richmond Convention and Visitors Bureau and director of membership for the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
An avid RVer, Susan will bring her passion for camping with her to ARVC. In the past few years, she and her husband have pulled their RV into more than 25 ARVC member-parks across the country.
She says it was fate that she found ARVC at this time. It was on a recent RV trip to the Georgia coast to celebrate Christmas when she decided she wanted to marry her love of RVing with her roots in hospitality.
“My husband and I were taking a much-needed break, enjoying the warmer weather, gorgeous sunsets, and inspiring sunrises. I also noticed that all around me families were using the opportunity that outdoor hospitality provided to visit with and connect to family members to celebrate the season. It hit me that I wanted to be part of making these important memories happen,” she says.
Susan has a bachelor’s degree from The College of William and Mary in Virginia and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). She holds additional certifications in instructional design; gamification for professional development; generational training and membership engagement; and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
“Susan is the full package, and her innovative ideas will advance ARVC’s education and events, as well as the efforts of ARVC Foundation into the future,” Bambei says. “She will hit the ground running as we continue to advance ARVC’s on-demand certifications, create new learning opportunities for members through ARVC University, and return in person for memorable education and networking opportunities at the Outdoor Hospitality Conference and Expo (OHCE) in Raleigh, NC, this November.”
