If you’re thinking of getting into the campground business or are already in the process of buying or building a park, wouldn’t it be great to tap into the expertise of those who have done this before? Now you can, by participating in ARVC’s one-day Prospective Owners Workshop (POW). Here’s what you need to know about this powerful educational program:
The POW is a one-day workshop presented by industry experts who cover essential topics for prospective owners including:
- Industry trends and insights
- Building a park versus purchasing an existing one
- The national standards for construction for the health and safety of your guests
- Insurance
- Hiring a consultant
- Financing options
- Franchise opportunities
- Marketing, accounting, choosing suppliers and much more.
Plus you can get your questions answered in the open Q&A session.
This year, the POW is being offered in an online format on three dates: February 9, May 4 and August 10 as well as in person on November 8 at the 2021 Outdoor Hospitality Conference and Expo (OHCE) in Raleigh, N.C. Tuition is $599.99. Visit arvc.org/Prospective-Campground-Owners-Workshop for more information and to register.
Sterling Dodd is a capital markets representative who specializes in institutional finance and commercial real estate for the RV park and campground industry. He and his business partner decided they wanted to specialize in this market, since they are both outdoorsmen and it’s an industry they enjoy. Sterling participated in a recent POW session and appreciated having the opportunity to learn more about topics such as the regulatory environment for campground owners, the industry’s presence in Washington D.C. and national standards for RV parks and campgrounds.
“I would definitely give POW a 10 out of 10,” he says. “They really provided us with a wide variety of expertise. The resources that are available to owners through ARVC are robust. I think that’s my favorite takeaway.”
The ARVC Foundation will award up to three scholarships for the POW this year. Scholarship applications and supporting materials must be submitted to the ARVC Foundation by the Friday prior to each online session (February 5, April 31 or August 6, respectively) and no later than September 30 for the in-person workshop at OHCE.
“In 2021, The ARVC Foundation is pleased to continue its mission of helping to bring education to those interested in learning about this wonderful industry,” says Cyndy Zbierski, ARVC Foundation chairman. “With events occurring in virtual classrooms for now, the need for some to have monetary assistance to attend has not changed. The ARVC Foundation is proud to support scholarships to the POW sessions hosted by ARVC throughout 2021.
“It is the goal of the ARVC Foundation Trustees to offer a fair and user-friendly application process that allows it to grant scholarships throughout the year to those wishing to further their education in the RV park and campground industry,” Zbierski says. “The ARVC Foundation is here to help improve the industry by helping individuals gain access to further education and enhanced skills.”
